RADIO ROW | "THE WORST WEEK IN SPORTS TALK" ?- LM

LM
RADIO ROW
1-30-2013

In the last four years, most local stations have made weekly appearances at the Super Bowl's Radio Row.

Full disclosure, I wanted to write a Super Bowl story and I was about to bash these phonies for bitching about Ray Lewis and Harbaugh Bowl "Story-lines".  The complaining about obvious story lines is a joke, in the "black community" and Nick Wright can speak to this, we have a phrase called "Bring Me Out".

Bring Me Out is a phrase used as an excuse to jump in some shit, you know sort of like America allegedly knowing about Pearl Harbor to get in WW2.  In other words, the local media has found a way to satisfy fans  who hate story lines while still addressing the story-line.   Basically, they will complain about how much they hate a story, and tell you they are only talking about it because  it's a story.

You see how I did that? I wrote about a subject I said I was not going to write about. The same is being done for Radio Row.

After learning how to navigate the various third party twitter applications, I wanted to get the vibe on radio row.  I did a search on "Radio Row" and I learned, there are a lot of fans who hate this week of sports talk.  I am not talking local but nationwide.  What happened next shouldn't surprise anyone, the media is talking down on Radio Row.

I have heard the local media complain via twitter about having to do the  same old boring interviews and guest pimping their products.   What's the difference from the regular week of radio when your guests pimp their products?  Are we talking volume here?

Radio Row

Ask yourself this:
  • If anyone locally in attendance at Radio Row were told they could not attend, would they piss a pit?
  • Do you think the personalities that couldn't go, wanted to go?
  • Are these guys tweeting pics of Radio Row events like little school girls?
I like Radio Row.  Hell, anything to get us away from the dry ass topics like "is Schaub elite" or "List Radio", I'm game.  Some may say, "LM, I thought you didn't like interviews" well yeah that's true but I know what Radio Row is and what I am in for.

WRAP IT UP

As a professional radio listener, when I hear  the media (local or national) all on the same tune, I go into alert mode.  As a human, I know it's impossible to get 10 people on the same page and to hear hundreds and thousands lock step with the same "talking point" my natural instinct is to challenge it.

I really wish the media could be original and stop "trending" the public.  I really believe the media's show "prep" has been reduced down to looking at what's trending on twitter, yahoo or the previous show.

With that said, I do have my SUPER BOWL STORY.  Last year, all of the National Media was on this word amicable.  This year, media is on "it's too early to pick a team" to win the Super Bowl.  I have been listening tot he interviews and all of the national Media is saying the same thing.  I don't get it, is that suppose to be "deep" or is something going to happen before the game is played.  I mean, we are damn near in February  c'mon fam, can't pick a team?
